School Manager & Teacher

Working with us since 2012

Specialties: Intakes, school management, A1-B2

Hi, I’m Selma. I started this Dutch Language School back in 2013. Back then, I would never have thought it would grow the way it did. With 6 teachers and hundreds of students each year, as well as raving reviews on Facebook and Google, I now dare to say we have the best Dutch language institute in Maastricht and surroundings.

This is how it started.

In 2013, I was frankly quite unhappy as a copywriter. In my free time, I became the host of the Language exchange group in Maastricht. After meeting lots of foreign students and expats wanting to learn Dutch, I started Learn Dutch in Maastricht in my own home, literally at the kitchen table. The school slowly grew out of my apartment, but I always aimed to keep the approach the same: friendly, informal and personal.

The best way to learn anything (not just languages!) is to be in an environment where you feel comfortable to try out new things and to make mistakes. I always aim to make the lessons as enjoyable and effective as possible – the one doesn’t exclude the other! This can be with (online and offline) games, engaging conversation topics and roleplay.

As the owner of this school, I am always looking for ways to improve our Dutch lessons even more. It’s the most rewarding thing ever to see students improve and, when possible, have fun doing it. I’m very much looking forward to teaching you too!
